First?

Now…how do you start your first blog post? It is a tricky one but I am going to begin by saying, hi my name is Mae. Boring isn’t it? But sometimes boring is good – unless it is music. In this first post I am going to be telling you about my “firsts” in music.

First album?

My first album was Pop Party (the first one) which I think I bought when I was on holiday in Devon when I was five years old. I still have it, along with the next…eight of them.

First concert?

My first ever concert was actually sort of a festival with Taylor Swift headlining. It was the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park and it was only a couple of years ago. I went with my friend who is a huge Swiftie but the first act we saw that day was Vance Joy who if I remember rightly did a lot of covers. I was definitely late to the life of gigging but I think that is probably because of my shy, socially awkward nature. Now I love it!

First music love?

My first music love was probably McFly. I liked Busted but they ended when I was about five so I couldn’t get into them too much. So yes McFly, however I have never seen them live and I am not that much of a fan of their more recent stuff. As for McBusted…too much guitar.

First instrument?

I first played the piano for a few years but childhood me couldn’t cope with lessons or exams so I gave it up but I do still play occasionally and I can read sheet music which is a good skill to have. I also played clarinet for a bit but my main love is drums. Love them.

First “music device”?

For my fifth birthday I got a pink and purple Disney personal CD player with weird headphones which worked for about ten years. It did well it was very well used. I got through that and two MP3 players before I got my first iPod Nano when I was twelve.

First music exam?

My first music exam was the Prep Test for piano but I am not sure whether it counts officially in which case my first music exam was Grade 1. I think I got a Merit.

First song on Top 25 most played songs in iTunes library?

My most played song in my iTunes library is “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy which is one of my favourite songs ever. It is not too old as well which shows how much I must have played it during my seven or eight years of having an iTunes library.

First song on Recently Added playlist on iPod?

“Wolves of Winter” by Biffy Clyro which is a good drumming song, I bought the album a few weeks back up in Leeds along with “Divide” by Ed Sheeran and “My Love Is Cool” by Wolf Alice.

First song played on drums?

The first song I was taught on drums was “One Day Like This” by Elbow which I still sometimes play as a warmup for nostalgia reasons. It is very easy hence why it was the first song I played but you can add cool grooves to it whilst warming up.

First song to dance to (properly)?

I do street dance and the first dance I was taught in the class was to “Rude Boy” by Rihanna. I remember the opening bar or two but that’s about it.

These were ten “firsts” involving music 🙂

Thank you for reading x
